Registration: All participants must complete the registration form in its entirety to enter the competition.  Registration is considered complete once all required and relevant fields are fill out and submitted.

Scarecrow Creation:  Participants must create a scarecrow for display at the Bloom@Doon Community Plant & Garden Market. The scarecrow must be appropriate for a family-friendly event and must be built using safe, non-hazardous materials. Additionally, the scarecrow must be free-standing and self-supported—it must be able to stand independently in the designated display area on the day of the event and during judging.

The garden’s buzzing, the sunflowers are smiling, and it’s time to show off your creativity at the Bloom@Doon Scarecrow Competition! Whether your scarecrow is quirky, spooky, hilarious, or fabulous, we want YOU to join the fun and bring your scarecrow to life at Bloom@Doon.

What’s it all about?

  • Scarecrow Drop-Off: Between 6am and 9am on Saturday 29th August to the Scarecrow Exhibit @ Bloom@Doon.  Please ensure you speak with the ‘Scarecrow Volunteer’ to ensure your entry is numbered for judging.
  • Scarecrow Must Be Free-Standing (no stakes in the ground, please!)
  • Scarecrow Must Be Collected between 2pm and 4pm on Saturday 29th August.

Scarecrow Competition – Terms and Conditions

Scarecrow Creation:  Participants must create a scarecrow for display at the Bloom@Doon Community Plant & Garden Market.

Additionally, the scarecrow must be free-standing and self-supported—it must be able to stand independently in the designated display area on the day of the event and during judging.   

Delivery of Scarecrow: Deliver your completed scarecrow to the Bloom@Doon Market on Saturday 30th August 2025 at 7am

Voting & Judging: The winning scarecrows will be determined by the sponsor of the Scarecrow Competition.  The People’s Choice Award will be determined by visitor votes during the event.  Voting will be conducted via an online voting system, and the results are final.  

Prizes: The following prizes will be awarded to the top three scarecrows:

  • 1st Prize: $600
  • 2nd Prize: $500
  • 3rd Prize: $400
  • People’s Choice Award: $200

Judging will be carried out by our Gold Sponsor, Cherry’s Landscapes Design and Earthworks, who is also generously providing all prize money. The People’s Choice Award will be determined through a QR code voting system, allowing visitors to Bloom@Doon to cast their votes.  

Announcement of Winners: The winners of the Scarecrow Building Competition will be announced at 1.30pm on 30th August 2025 at Bloom@Doon.  Be sure to join us for the exciting reveal.  

Prize Payment Process: Bloom@Doon will present the winners (if present) with a certificate on the day of the event.  Winners will be asked to confirm their contact details at the time.  All winners will be contacted on Monday 31st August to obtain the necessary bank details.  Prize money will be issued via direct bank deposit.

Auction of Scarecrows: After the announcement of the winners of the Scarecrow Building Competition, all scarecrows will be auctioned off.  The proceeds from the auction will be donated to Bloom@Doon Community Plant & Garden Market. By entering, participants agree to have their scarecrow included in the auction.

Photo Consent and Release: By entering this competition, you consent to Bloom@Doon capturing and using photographs or video footage of you and/or your scarecrow for promotional purposes. You grant Bloom@Doon the right to edit, publish, and share these images without the need for further approval or compensation. This may include, but is not limited to, use on the Bloom@Doon website, social media platforms, and other marketing materials.

Liability: Participants agree to hold Bloom@Doon Community Plant & Garden Market committee, affiliates and event sponsors harmless from any liability, injury, or damage that may occur during the event or as a result of participation in the competition.

Publicity: By entering the competition, participants grant permission to Bloom@Doon to use photos, videos, and any media captured during the event for promotional purposes.

Event Changes: Bloom@Doon reserves the right to modify or cancel the event or competition at any time due to unforeseen circumstances.  In such cases, participants will be notified in advance.
